Image URL as featured image

What problem does this address?

A user asked about the image URL not being considered anymore - https://wordpress.org/support/topic/unable-to-click-field/.

I understand it has been removed because the fallback image does the same thing.

However, the individual fallback image that allows imports to have specific fallback images is a pro feature. Using the image URL, which generates a similar effect as the individual fallback image, was something accessible for everyone.

What is your proposed solution?

Reintegrate the image URL support.
