Using the release version 2.2.155 of Carnac under Windows 10:

2017-12-17

As soon as the Save button is hit, the software dies.

I installed now the version from http://carnackeys.com with file Carnac.application - and here no problems with saving. It is only the release 2.2.155 from the github site.

As soon as the Save button is hit, the software dies.

You might find some in the Event Viewer about the underlying error:

  • the log you want is Windows Logs | Application log
  • set the Filter in the right-hand column to Error

It turns out for me that the Carnac need escalated access and denied by system, thus crashes.

Thanks @shiftkey for the EventViewer tip. I found below and use the workaround to run the program as administrator. Save the config with no crash.

Application: Carnac.exe Framework Version: v4.0.30319 Description: The process was terminated due to an unhandled exception. Exception Info: System.UnauthorizedAccessException at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32, System.String) at System.IO.FileStream.Init(System.String, System.IO.FileMode, System.IO.FileAccess, Int32, Boolean, System.IO.FileShare, Int32, System.IO.FileOptions, SECURITY_ATTRIBUTES, System.String, Boolean, Boolean, Boolean)

Good thing is, I do not need the admin right to use it. only when I want to modify config should I use administrator to run it.

😄
