Problems with Sonic Spinball

I used Hakchi with the Sega Genesis Mini and now when I try to run Sonic Spinball or any of the savestates I have for it the game doesn't recognise any inputs. The title screen will just loop the opening cinematic forever and will not respond. Is there any way to fix this problem?

Set the player count to 2 instead of 4.

How am I supposed to do that if the controller doesn't register any imput?

It’s in the hakchi 2 UI when connected to the computer, not when running in the game itself.
