Failed to reproduce. Using the current master (just tried to download again, reported not changed since last time a number of hours ago), with the compilation error fixed (pos -> pos_bub required).
The game had a single overwriting line printing the load progress (vastly inferior to the old full screen height window, but slightly better than the nothing that replaced it).
However, it might be a screen height issue, as the line appears a fair bit below the image, and your first image seems to cut off about where the line appears for me.
