Review and standardize error checking.

Is this meant in the context of logging errors or displaying errors to the users?

Either and both? :)

Right now some error checking works, some doesn't, others just use raw responses, and some are massaged. We should probably, at the very least, make sure everything is reporting.

With so much code having changed I feel this should be given a second look pre-release; moving to project rc1
