Improved handling of express railways?
Describe your idea
Currently it is not exactly possible to run express railways. It is possible to build such railways, but passengers don't really use express routes.
Example assets/mods:
- Set of Ground Metro Stations https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2350676479
- MOM Inspired Modern Quad Metro Track https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2808163915
I am not sure if this is a game limitation, or something TMPE can influence.
Screenshots?
Consider the following, where the red line is the local line and the green line is the express line, using the assets listed above:
This setup has 3 stations:
- Left station: both local and express lines have a stop here, each using their own platform
- Middle station: only local line have a stop here, express line simply uses bypass track
- Right station: again, both local and express lines have a stop here, each using their own platform
Currently, if cims want to go from left station to right station, they will almost always take the red local line; they will almost never take the green express line.
The intention is that, if cims want to go from left station to right station, they should just take the green express line.
Notes or questions?
I know cims in Cities Skylines do not care about service frequency. If cims start to wait for the express line, I will simply allocate more trains to the express line.
There are some known workarounds, with their own problems:
- use TMPE to make the outer track have a (significantly) lower max speed than the inner track
- this is kind of tedious to configure, especially when tracks may need to be rebuilt
- make the express line share platforms with local line instead of having them as separate platforms
- this greatly limits train throughput
This might be related to how TMPE adds extra costs to prevent "unnecessary" public transport interchanges. However, it is acceptable if cims refuse to interchange between local/express lines in case their origin/destination is not near an express line station.
Hi, IIRC cims don't take into account waiting time and number of stops doesn't matter that much. Public transport interchange would come into play if you have both trains stopping at the same stop somewhere between source and target destination, so citizens should try to use line that doesn't require changing train on that stop.

Speed limit tool exists. You can set limit per lane, using a path (set limit on multiple segments at the same time).
I do not plan any more features or improvements to the mod. Only bug fixing and compatibility patches, if next game update(s) somehow breaks the mod
Yeah, I know TMPE has a lane speed limit tool. My words failed me again.
But, understandable. I don't play CS2, but perhaps this would be a relevant issue in the TMPE mod for CS2?
