owo-animals.json file and SQL database files severely out of date

Open ghost opened this issue 1 year ago • 9 comments

Trying to self-host the bot, which is apparently allowed according to the readme. I found out the owo-animals.json file is over 3 years our of date, as such hunting does not work because many items such as cpatreon, patreon and gems are missing completely. Is there any way to fetch an updated version of this file?

cpatreon arent there but i think the wiki has a list of them, gems arent there but you can make it manually pretty easily since its only like 5 animals and same with patreons. It seems like you have most of the bot already done, are you doing this on windows? cus ive tried to do it and didnt succeed

No, I originally tried on windows but failed miserably. I am now running a Ubuntu VM and doing it that way

This would help MASSIVELY, however I don't think that's going to happen (hasn't in 3 years, why would it now?) The SQL is also 3 years out of date so we are going to need to plug in the holes ourselves if we want to do this.

It's sad because with the readme, I was under the impression Chris supported self-hosting. It seems evident that even though the source code is there, it's not really supported due to the vast amounts of refactoring and "making up" of data we are needing to do.

With no documentation on these either, it makes this much harder to achieve.

I hope Chris sees this and one day has a change of heart and at least provides us with a way to retrieve updated versions of these in the future

Would you guys be interested in trying to try to self host the bot? fill in all the holes ect

gritor111 avatar Sep 18 '22 19:09 gritor111

not really, we don't get any support whatsoever so my motivation isn't very high

I have to admit my motivation has dropped to do this for the same reason as @Togira123 However I am not giving up just yet. If I succeed then I will document the process and host it somewhere so others can have a go.

It's probably worth noting that I am already successfully self-hosting the bot, it responds to commands. Some things work, most don't but at least I am getting errors now so I can hunt them down and fix them which is what I am working on currently
