Windows says the latest release is a virus

I started trying to write it to a usb drive but rufus froze then Microsoft defender said virus detected

There isn't a virus. Windows defender is flagging the xz utility as a virus because one version had an exploit added to it. That exploit has been patched and is no longer an issue, and the latest installer release is not affected.

We will look into why Microsoft is flagging this, but it should be safe to disable defender for the Rufus write and then re-enable it.
