Host metrics pollute graph and metric dropdowns

Open sowdenraymond opened this issue 1 year ago • 12 comments

Hi,

Packet loss, Roundtrip average, Roundtrip minimum and Roundtrip maximum do not show any data on windows hosts.

Checkmk Raw edition, 2.2.0p1, Plugin version 3.1

The services display to be selected as metrics, but they do not show any data.

Raymond

can you provide some screenshots from the metrics/graphs in checkmk? what service are we talking about? i checked our internal checkmk instance, but the windows hosts available there do not have any of those metrics. i currently have no idea what the problem could be, so i need more context, maybe also a screenshot of the query in grafana.

Hi Benedikt,

Thanks for coming back to me!

If you look in CheckMK at a host and follow the breadcrumbs as in the below screenshot:

You get the option for the status of the host. This then gives you the agent statistics for the ping round trip times, as well as packet loss, between the agent and the CheckMK host:

[image: image.png] These metrics do show up in Grafana regardless of the service you choose:

But when you select any of these you get no data:

Also it does not seem to just be related to windows hosts only, I cannot get these metrics on any host since using the new plugin.

Let me know if you need anything further!

Really appreciate your assistance :)

Looks like the mail to issue gateway does not support attachments, but the text was enough to make me understand your issue better.

As far as I know we currently don't support host metrics (in raw edition). I will discuss this internally and see if we can come up with a solution.

Any updates on this?

We spoke about this, but did not find an easy solution. We will fix this eventually, but it will take some time.

Is there any sort of feedback or update for this?

Any feedback?

Round trip average and network info not working.

Currently, we're working on another problem. After solving that one, we can take a look here. If we can do a quick fix, we would just remove the entries of the hosts for now. The decision if we want to support host metrics is another one and potentially needs to be done afterwards.

I can only ask you for some more patience.

The reason I logged this issue was to get the host metrics working, not to remove them. The information like round trip average, packet loss etc. is very valuable for agent based monitoring, especially on remote areas.

I will be patient :)

This metric is also valuable to my use case.
