RFD: evolution/fork of this library

Hi there!

I have created for my employer (https://besport.com/) an updated version of this library: https://github.com/besport/monadlib. The changes are radical and I'm sure that no-one would want to merge this PR as is. The commit history is horrid and I have not at all sought any sort of continuity with the original version.

I'm curious whether anyone has some comments on my version of the library. If anyone spots some weird/bad choices I might have taken, don't hesitate to let me know!
