Request for Original .ply Files from Sandcastle Gaussian Splat Examples
Hello Cesium team, I hope this message finds you well. I'm currently working on understanding and researching the Gaussian Splatting implementation in Cesium, and I've been exploring the examples provided in the Sandcastle. Request: Could you please provide access to the original .ply files that are used in the Gaussian Splat Sandcastle examples? I'm particularly interested in studying the raw data format and structure to better understand: The original point cloud data format before conversion to glTF The data structure and attribute organization in the .ply format How the conversion process transforms the data for use in Cesium Purpose: This would greatly help me in: Understanding the complete data pipeline from .ply to rendered Gaussian splats Debugging coordinate transformation and scaling issues I'm currently facing Contributing back to the community with better documentation or improvements Context: I'm working on improving the Gaussian Splat tile loading and transformation pipeline, and having access to the original source data would provide valuable insights into the expected data ranges and formats. If sharing the original files isn't possible due to licensing or other constraints, could you perhaps point me to similar open-source .ply files that would be suitable for testing the Gaussian Splat functionality? Thank you very much for your time and consideration. The Gaussian Splatting feature in Cesium is truly impressive, and I appreciate all the hard work that has gone into its development. Best regards,
Thanks for the interest @RonnyLin! @weegeekps or @keyboardspecialist, could you please follow-up?
@RonnyLin
Apologies for the late reply. My recommendation would be to use an app like Niantic's Scaniverse which allows you to easily scan with your phone. It can export ply files you can then upload into Ion
@keyboardspecialist @ggetz Hi @ggetz and @keyboardspecialist, Thank you for your suggestions! I’ve tried uploading a .ply file (exported from Scaniverse) to Cesium ion, but unfortunately the upload failed. The asset appears in my dashboard with the status: “Something went wrong with this asset. To report this issue, please contact [email protected] with the asset ID: 3695849.”
