Erratic time behavior in the distant past or future

Open Troodontid opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

If you go into the distant past or future in Celestia, the flow of time starts to behave strangely. If set to real time (or any rate slower than real time), it will completely freeze, though faster time rates seem to work fine. The exact point at which the strange behaviors happen is somewhat random, but seems to center around the Julian dates of ±2147483648 and ±1073741824. It seems to randomly shift between the two as well, so sometimes you can go to the Julian date of ±1073741824 and time will bug out, and other times it won't bug out until ±2147483648. Before reaching one of these dates, setting the rate of time to real time works, but time seems to flow at twice the rate it should. Returning to the present day restores time to its proper behavior.

The Celestia version in use is Celestia 1.6.2.2.

I have noticed this as well.

I'm not sure if celestia is designed to go this high/low, but if the issue is caused by the large time value, I would rather a hard limit.

There is a hard limit of 2 billion years in the past or future.
