Official support for Pi 5?
Hi there! I've been testing Pinecraft on my new Raspberry Pi 5.
I'm just wondering if the Pi 5 is officially supported or tested yet?
It works pretty well for me but it really struggle if I start exploring in a boat. I get warnings that I'm travelling too fast
A bit more info, I just installed the latest version of Ubuntu Server on a 32gb Sandisk micro SD HC. I installed Pinecraft paper version with nothing else running. It seemed to only claim 4gb out of the total 8gb available. Also it didn't seem to apply any sort of overclocking.
I'm running 3 plugins: Core Protect, DiscordSRV and Dynmap
The Pi is just connected over WiFi as I haven't picked up an extra ethernet cable.
I'm not sure what the bottle neck is. My chosen storage media, the lack of overclocking, the allocated RAM, the wifi connection or perhaps the fact that I don't have a 5A power supply yet.
The power supply thing is annoying because there is seemingly no PD power supply on the market that supplies 5V 5A as recommended by the Pi 5 documentation except for the official Pi 27W charger which has not even been certified for sale in Australia yet so nobody stocks them.
I'm getting undervoltage detected warnings periodically but I figure that would only be a problem if I had peripherals connected
Hi @BonesJD. It took a LONG time to get a Pi 5 in Canada, but it finally arrived (Took about 5 months to get the 4GB model and 7 months to get the 8GB). My first priority is to the @NEMSLinux community, and then I'll be working on Pinecraft support for Raspberry Pi 5.
Question for you: How would you prefer to see it? I could either continue releasing Pinecraft as an installer atop the supported base distro, OR I could release it as a full distro img that you just flash and boot. Lemme know what you think.
BTW, your undervoltage warning means you need to buy a better power supply. You can't use an old Pi 4 power supply with the Pi 5. Replace it before you damage your Pi. I was able to order the correct power supply from CanaKit. Not related to Pinecraft, but important else you're gonna have all sorts of grief when you finally start trying Pinecraft on it.
Also interested. My Pi 5 just arrived this week and I'd like to install a minecraft server on it.

A full distro img that you just flash and boot sounds more straightforward to me. 👍
Appreciate all your hard work.
Alright - the full distro img is ready! Raspberry Pi 5 support is built-in. It's called PinecraftOS and it's included in the README for free download. Enjoy!
