I can confirm this bug.

Me too

staeglis avatar May 03 '25 14:05 staeglis

i also have this bug. switching between widevine versions does not help.

basco avatar May 03 '25 16:05 basco

same here. I can confirm this bug. Logout and new login to netflix does not help. switching widevine versions and restarting Kodi does not help. I cannot watch Netflix at the moment.

trm2sgm avatar May 03 '25 16:05 trm2sgm

same here. login through NFAuthenticationKey.py does not work, too.

could be related: anyone tried updating this addon? https://github.com/xbmc/inputstream.adaptive/releases (you need the binary, too, currently you have to compile it yourself, if you are on debian ask me for a deb) (i cant login anymore, but this at least fixed errors of the disney-addon)

slynobody avatar May 03 '25 18:05 slynobody

Yes, on Piers it works fine with inputstream.adaptive 22.2.3-Piers and widevine version 4.10.28991.0. I assume on Omega inputstream.adaptive 21.5.13-Omega would also solve the issue, but I cannot test that right now. For Libreelec I had to build the inputstream.adaptive addon myself. But it should also be in tomorrows nightly.

trm2sgm avatar May 04 '25 15:05 trm2sgm

I can confirm slynobody's solution works for Omega too! After installing the new inputstream, update to the latest Widevine and restart kodi.

For Kodi 21.2 on Ubuntu 24.04, you can download the fixed inputstream binary from here.

Anyone has a solution for this, but for Android? I am also unable to wach netflix. I'm on Omega 21.2 as well. TIA.

I can try to compile the new inputstream for Android, if you're interested. (never done it, so it would be a nice challenge)

go-vegan avatar May 04 '25 22:05 go-vegan

If you can try, I would appreciate it. I posted this issue a week ago, but so far no one tried to tackle it yet. It would be nice to have it fixed. :)

i managed to login again, the error message is gone -- but i have no video anymore (amd, seems to have nothing to do with codec and/or vaapi and/or mesa-version and/or chaning of esr).

anyone encountered this too, having a fix?

Still working for me... Are you sure you compiled for the right platform?

go-vegan avatar May 05 '25 17:05 go-vegan

i am completely sure i compiled for my platform. that was my solution in the first place, f.e. for disney. and others needing the addon.

at least i get sound with netflix. i have no idea what is the background for not getting video anymore. i heard the first 2 minutes come unencrypted so there must be something weird. all other addons relying on widevine have video.

maybe this sometimes popping up logwise could be related? 2025-05-05 21:04:58.842 T:674493 error : AddOnLog: inputstream.adaptive: License server returned failure (HTTP error 400) (...) 2025-05-05 21:05:02.946 T:674493 error : AddOnLog: inputstream.adaptive: Decrypt Sample returns failure!

Thank you for quick turnaround, however it did not solve the issue.. Still have MSL error: Due to MSL error cannot playback videos with this device....

Spike7712 avatar May 06 '25 01:05 Spike7712

Still have MSL error: Due to MSL error cannot playback videos with this device....

the situation is a bit tricky here until the distros (and flatpak) are delivering the latest version of https://github.com/xbmc/inputstream.adaptive/releases packetwise. see f.e. debian & arch are currently on 21.5.12. as for debian i will put a .deb on my page the next days as quickfix.

  • inputstream.adaptive has two parts: a binary and an addon.

  • both have to be latest (22.2.3 if you have kodi 22, 21.5.13 if you have kodi 21) -- look in the addon-section of kodi for the version-number

  • update binary & addon

    • precompiled binary is relatively easy (for structure take a look into an old package of your distro),
    • addon could be tricky because it is used already: remove the old one (in the kodi-dir in home -- !and/or in the distro!) , disable old one (as well as those which depend on them - then update, reactivate)
  • update Widevine to latest (through netflix-addon, there is a section for inputstream-adaptive-settings)

  • refresh your esn (widevine)

  • make sure you only enabled codecs (vp9 etc.) your gpu and/or mesa and/or vaapi currently support

  • ensure the right parts of vaapi are enabled in kodi, test vsync-capability

  • restart kodi

slynobody avatar May 06 '25 07:05 slynobody

I created a MR for fixing the flatpak

https://github.com/flathub/tv.kodi.Kodi/pull/438

EDIT: Flatpak should be fixed already

staeglis avatar May 06 '25 21:05 staeglis

Thanks @staeglis :

I created a MR for fixing the flatpak

flathub/tv.kodi.Kodi#438

EDIT: Flatpak should be fixed already

I use flatpak, and I just saw that there was an update:

$ flatpak remote-ls --updates
Name Application ID Version Branch Arch
Kodi tv.kodi.Kodi 21.2-Omega stable x86_64

... and I updated. Now InputStream adaptive is at 21.5.13, so should be OK as per:

21.5.13 if you have kodi 21

... but I am still getting MSL error; is there anything else I could do?

Edit: also tried:

  • Kodi Netflix addon / Settings / Expert tab / InputStream Helper settings ... / Debug tab / Install Widevine CDM library from specfici source (keeping the ...recovery_stable-channel_fievel-mp.bin.zip URL in "Install Widevine from:" field, so answered Yes)
  • Kodi Netflix addon / Settings / Expert tab / ESN/Widevine settings / Reset, then Apply changes now

... nothing happened, still have the MSL problem

sdbbs avatar May 07 '25 17:05 sdbbs

@sdbbs: hope you installed widevine 4.10.28991 (which is latest, it was 'unstable' last days, you are talking about a 'stable' one, but i could be wrong)

But the issue in general sdbbs and spike7712 are talking about is #1736/"MSL error you cannot playback videos with this device". There are currently at least three other 'MSL'-issues open. Hope the maintainer of the git is looking into them (and possibly offers an update soon, the disney-plugin needed to be updated after the widevine-/inputstream-updates lately too).

Possible solutions to MSL-issue #1736 should be discussed in #1736, not here. else it will get to cluttered here, not being really a help for others also searching for a solution for this specific issue.

slynobody avatar May 07 '25 18:05 slynobody

in general: Letting the plugin again run with latest version of widevine through the solution above seemed to be background and solution for this 'MSL'-issue #1737 ("This title is not available to watch instantly") go-vegan opened.

in my eyes it is closeable (only doable by go-vegan or the maintainer, my 2ct. and. out.)

slynobody avatar May 07 '25 18:05 slynobody

Where to find Widvine latest widevine package for android device? I am doing an online research, but it only shows one for linux.

Spike7712 avatar May 07 '25 21:05 Spike7712

Many thanks @slynobody :

@sdbbs: hope you installed widevine 4.10.28991 (which is latest, it was 'unstable' last days, you are talking about a 'stable' one, but i could be wrong)

Not trying to clutter, but thanks to this comment I finally got it working again, even though first few times I tried it after this comment I failed - turns out, what I was missing, was to restart Kodi. So here is the sequence of steps I did to get this working again, in my flatpak Kodi install:

  • Netflix addon / Settings / Expert tab / InputStream Helper settings ... / Expert tab / (Re)install Widevine CDM library ... / (wait a bit) / Say "I accept" to Widevine CDM EULA / (wait a bit) / Choose which version to install / 4.10.2891.0
  • After the above install is done, exit Kodi
  • Start Kodi again
  • Try playing Netflix video - it works

As long as I did not do the exit Kodi step, I could not get this to work. Thanks again!

After issue, I was no longer able to watch videos using the addon. I noticed this was supposedly fixed in the latest update, but I still can't play any content.

The current behavior is: when I try to play any video, the addon crashes immediately and returns to Kodi's main screen. I even reinstalled Kodi from scratch on a different machine to rule out any local configuration issues, but the exact same problem happens.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Open the addon.
  • Select any series or movie.
  • Start playback.
  • The addon crashes instantly and returns to Kodi's main screen.

I'd really appreciate it if you could take a look at this, as the recent update doesn’t seem to have completely resolved the playback issue.

Thanks for your work, and let me know if I can help with any testing.

Hi, has anyone tried to run the plugin in a Raspberry Pi 3 with LibreELEC 12? I saw that @trm2sgm did for LibreELEC, but not sure which version you used or on which Raspberry Pi. I'm trying to run the add-on, but I'm unable to play video due to the MSL error. Maybe you can guide me on the compilation, or if you have a link to how to compile it, that'll be great.

Luciano-Delaude avatar Dec 01 '25 12:12 Luciano-Delaude

I used it on LibreELEC on x86 hardware. Didn’t try on RPi, sorry.

trm2sgm avatar Dec 02 '25 03:12 trm2sgm

I can confirm this issue on libreelec 12.2.1 using a rpi5. I needed to use a fresh install because my sdcard failed and now I'm stuck on this error. Widevine version 4.10.2662.3 which seems to be latest today. Kodi 21. 3 ISA 21.5.18.1
