DSP: Crackling sound when using EQ

When I change the DSP equalizer settings, there often is a crackling sound on Lyrat 4.3 and Esp32 audio kit 2.2. It seems like there is some clipping in the audio processing. Maybe the EQ could prevent this by e.g. reducing the total volume when frequency bands are made louder? On the other hand, it seems like the DSP is already reducing the audio volume...

On a different note: I can also change EQ settings and run into this issue when "Stereo Flow" is selected instead of the EQ.
