Recording failed
Description
So I am just trying to record screen with cap.so but so many the recording fails when I click on save button after being finish with the recording. It not happens at every recording but many times in this case 4 time back to back.
Reproduction
Like I just wanna record and I can also pause while recording and stuff but on save it fails it ?
Additional Context
- Cap version: vO.3.81
- Operating system, version: Sequoia 15.7.2
- Device (optional): Mac M2 pro
When I click on "Save"
I had a similar issue with a 3-hour lecture recording, which was unfortunate since it was my first production test after moving away from Loom.
Did it save a corrupt cap file for you as well, and can you access the content?
@ImamJanjua If any of your recordings were important, they can still be saved!
Go to Previous Recordings → click the folder icon on your file Right-click the .cap file → Show Package Contents Navigate to: Content > Segments > segment-0 You'll find your display.mp4 and audio-input.ogg files separately
I then combined mine for a working output file as such, but you could also import these into the video editor of your choice as I haven't been able to get Cap to recognize it further.
ffmpeg -i display.mp4 -i audio-input.ogg -c:v copy -map 0:v:0 -map 1:a:0 -c:a aac -b:a 192k output.mp4
I'm facing the same issues repeatedly. Extremely annoying, every longer recording over a couple minutes is corrupted.

@richiemcilroy I can see by the commits ur working on this, keep it up! But brother just lost a 3 hour recording, that makes me really sad.
Most recording fail issues should be fixed on 0.3.83, and if not, please post a support ticket in our discord with context on the hardware you're using and also the OS etc and your recording logs.
There's literally a hundred different reasons why a recording could fail. Context is key here. Look through your log files. Make a support thread. Without the log files there's not really much we can do.
You can get them by going to Settings -> Previous Recordings -> Click the folder icon on a problematic recording, right click the .cap file and click "Show package contents. Inside there will be a few different .log files.

This is silly. We have 10's of thousands of users. There will always be edge cases, and we can always get to the bottom of it with the correct context and the log files.

Yes i'm on 0.3.83, this happened on my Mac (m1 macbook pro running Sequoia 15.7.2) constantly. On my windows machine, so far it seems fine and I haven't ran into it. Here are my log and .json files on the recent failed recording.

@richiemcilroy great! Today I am experiencing a new and frustrating bug. I can't record on mac even though I just upgraded to 15.7.3. When i'm on windows now, when cap is open and using airpods via Bluetooth, it's constantly switching my audio and mic sources even when a recording is started and I can't stop it. But closing Cap stops it. I can see it jumping back and forth every few seconds in my systems sound settings on windows.
Might be only with Bluetooth devices, it doesn't hop or switch on any other device.
It only happens when the cap actor is running.
@richiemcilroy Any update? I saw the announcement that v.0.4 was to be released last week but I'm not seeing a release yet with a hopeful fix :/
