To give more context why it doesn't work - when I wrote it I wasn't aware of all of the features present in the renderer, which relies on osg's material...
Hmmm, wouldn't there still be a benefit of having type safe Keys instead of indices into a vector?

Also experiencing it with the latest build from ci (as of writing) on Fedora. It feels like the camera is sluggishly trying to follow players character and barely keeping up
