[deu] Dialect labels are not recognized

Open yeonju123 opened this issue 3 years ago • 2 comments

In Wiktionary, German includes Swiss German and Germany German as its dialects. These "dialects" are each labeled with (Standard German of Germany) and (Standard German of Switzerland) or Swiss German. In the java script codes, these dialects are only wrapped with <i> without span[@class layer. Therefore, our dialect path template cannot recognize these dialects. I attached a link in this post for a quick reference. https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/sn%C3%B6ben This issue may not be limited to German. @jacksonllee @lfashby

It looks like an issue, or at least inconsistency, in upstream Wiktionary, rather than something we should fix here in WikiPron. Is there a way to flag this upstream?

I don't really know. I've been able to get in touch with Wiktionary editors occasionally and I can try one of them.

I think this inconsistency was just a mistake, someone fixed it later. I couldn't find any other examples of other German Wiktionary pages having the same issue, so I think it's isolated.

I went looking for even one other German-language page (other than snöben 'to snowboard') that has a dialect label on its IPA pronunciation and failed. so I think there really aren't very many of these for this language anyways. I'm going to close the issue.
