Read error on SCPH-90006

Open TremxNeo opened this issue 4 years ago • 31 comments

I tried both versions of 3.11 but it got the same error, however the hybrid one got a red screen

TremxNeo avatar Jun 30 '20 17:06 TremxNeo

What kind of error did you get exactly?

There are several errors that can occur which have nothing to do with the exploit.

From the title of this issue I assume you have the SCPH-9006 console. When starting the PS2 with no disk inserted and pressing triangle (like shown in this video), what DVD Player version does it say you have?

Did you make sure to set your language to English before trying the exploit?

stendarr avatar Jun 30 '20 21:06 stendarr

both say disc could not be read and yes i set the language to English before trying this The DVD Player version is 3.11G I followed the video on how to do the exploit also And does having a memory card inserted during this affect the exploit?

TremxNeo avatar Jul 01 '20 03:07 TremxNeo

How long did you wait on the red screen for? Please try waiting 3 minutes or so, per this comment:

https://github.com/CTurt/FreeDVDBoot/issues/3#issuecomment-651337741

CTurt avatar Jul 05 '20 17:07 CTurt

Red screen? Have you drag&dropped the ISO onto the disc and burned it, instead of writing it as image?

TnA-Plastic avatar Jul 06 '20 20:07 TnA-Plastic

@TnA-Plastic i did burn it using imgburn at 4x speed but i only have a dvd-rw so i'll try to get my hands on a dvd-r @CTurt ok i will try out (the red screen was about the disc not being a playstation disc)

TremxNeo avatar Jul 09 '20 15:07 TremxNeo

HOW have you burned it with IMGburn?

RSOD should not appear at all!

TnA-Plastic avatar Jul 09 '20 20:07 TnA-Plastic

@TnA-Plastic i followed this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9b15v-4l6I&t=292s

TremxNeo avatar Jul 10 '20 10:07 TremxNeo

It should have worked.

If it were a read-error, it would/should have shown the DRE or a Black-Screen!

Definetly get your hands onto some DVD-R!

TnA-Plastic avatar Jul 10 '20 12:07 TnA-Plastic

i got my hands on some cd-r's and it did better than the cd-rw but it didnt work,so im getting closer but no dice

TremxNeo avatar Jul 11 '20 17:07 TremxNeo

Wait so you used a CD? This only works when burned to a DVD

ghost avatar Jul 11 '20 17:07 ghost

Hey I guess our problem is same. My ps2 is also scph-90006 and dvd player is 3.11G I tried both isos but still couldn't work. Yes i burnt it into dvd-r. I also followed the method from that youtube link above. And yes i'm also new to ps2 exploit.

But now our guy CTurt has updated new isos. I guess i gonna try it first. I will let you guys know if it works well.

Dageengz avatar Jul 15 '20 22:07 Dageengz

So I've done it and the result is still the same. I also tried to use UltraISO to burn it at 1x speed but still can't.

Dageengz avatar Jul 18 '20 04:07 Dageengz

Use IMGBurn, turn OPC on, write with AWS, use a Desktop-Writer...

TnA-Plastic avatar Jul 18 '20 13:07 TnA-Plastic

AWS would be max speed, not minimum @TnA-Plastic

ghost avatar Jul 18 '20 21:07 ghost

"minimum" isn't a good idea for DVDs anyway...

Slow is only a good idea for those who have writers with a low laser-power (like laptop-writers)! Usually the best approach is to write them at "mid-speed" of the "speed-range" of a disc! So if it supports 1x-12x, ~6.5x would be the best... For 4x-16x, ~8-10x and so on... (so a bit slower than the mid-range, but with OPC/LPC turned ON!)

...and AWS + OPC works quite well on most combinations! DEFINITELY turn OPC ON!!!

Oh... For the History-books... AFAIK, this will only ever work on DVDs and NEVER on CDs!

I mean... Not that there is no possibility for a CD-based exploit, but THIS specific thing which exploits the DVD-Player will not work from CDs at any point in time!

TnA-Plastic avatar Jul 18 '20 22:07 TnA-Plastic

So I've done what you said. I turned on OPC and wrote it at 8x speed. It turns out well at first but then I experienced the black screen issues. I waited while playing games for almost 15 minutes but nothing happens.

At least now it can read the disc. I can say it's a step closer.

Oh and btw, I use my laptop to burn my dvds.

Dageengz avatar Jul 20 '20 02:07 Dageengz

Sometimes it can and can't read. I really dunno what's the problem here. Even if it can read, I'm having the black screen issue.

Dageengz avatar Jul 20 '20 02:07 Dageengz

I suppose the media combined with your disk-writer, is the cause. Try a Desktop-Writer! Try Verbatim or Tayo Yuden.

TnA-Plastic avatar Jul 20 '20 06:07 TnA-Plastic

yeah i used a portable dvd burner and it worked,I finally got my hands on some dvd-r's...version 3.11 worked instantly (my dvd-r was a verbatim)

I replaced my cmos battery also just in case it was contributing to anything going wrong

TremxNeo avatar Jul 20 '20 13:07 TremxNeo

Ah, so another writer but the same discs worked?

TnA-Plastic avatar Jul 20 '20 14:07 TnA-Plastic

Ah, so another writer but the same discs worked?

I was using the same portable dvd burner,it only worked when i used a dvd-r the cd-r showed signs of it being read but it failed

TremxNeo avatar Jul 20 '20 14:07 TremxNeo

I will definitely gonna try that. But unfortunately I don't have another writer. Gonna get them first then. Thanks tho!

Dageengz avatar Jul 20 '20 20:07 Dageengz

It worked! I also homebrew some games now. Both desktop-writers and laptop can burn my games. My games work perfectly. Thanks a lot guys!

Uh Hi there, i have the same console as you, could you help me out with how you did it? It would be a great help, thanks. I have a SCPH-90006 with DVDPlayer 3.11g

Hi too! Follow this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9b15v-4l6I&t=292s

You have to use dvds to burn the isos. When i use my laptop it seems my ps2 can't read the disc(i also wasted a lot of dvds tho) but desktop-writers can.

If you want your ps2 boot your games like the officials one, you have to patch your iso games. Download it from here (https://www.ps2-home.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=123&t=9778&sid=816b7e3f6efefdb6871e036f3228e5a6). Just follow the readme and you're good to go!

Hey, thanks so much for replying, I just wanted to confirm. By desktop-writers you meant the inbuilt dvd reader/writer in a desktop computer right? And if so, I don't have one that runs windows, I have an iMac do you think it'll work with that? Or should I run a virtual machine on it and using that run windows on it and then burn the dvd using imgburn through the virtual machine? I have the 21.5 inch Mid 2011 iMac. Before asking on this forum thing I was using an external DVD reader/writer with my laptop since it didn't have an inbuilt one. I also have another laptop available it's an HP ProBook 450 G4, it has an inbuilt dvd reader/writer. So in total I have 3 burning options, 1) The external DVD reader/writer, 2) The HP ProBook 450 G4 and lastly the iMac. Jeez this has gotten long I'm so sorry you'd have to read it all 😅 but thanks for putting up with me!!!

abraar-raza avatar Jul 27 '20 12:07 abraar-raza

I really don't know about that much if it's come to disc writer because I am still new on this (even burning dvds). I am sorry that I can't help you much. I hope another person can help you in this. Maybe you can refer to this one. I'm so sorry 😅

Ah, Hello There I have same Problems with You all, My FreeDVDBoot can't readed by My PS2, it's said: "This Disc could not be read". And My PS2 Spesification is:

  1. Console: SCPH-90006
  2. Browser: 1.40
  3. CD Player: 2.00
  4. PlayStation® Driver: 2.00
  5. DVD Player: 3.11G
  6. And, My PS2 doesn't installed any Matrix or any Modchip

And I already have burned the FreeDVDBoot (i used the PreBuild-ISO: All PS2 Slims - English Language.iso) into my 2 Sony 120 Min 4.7 GB 16X-1 DVD-R images.

  • For the First DVD-R, i burned the FreeDVDBoot with 8x Write Speed (the DVD-R's Supported Write Files is 8x & 16x, so i choose the 8x (because it's the Slowest)) at ImgBurn using PC Windows 7 Ultimate, it's doesn't work on the PS2
  • Then, the Second DVD-R, i burned the FreeDVDBoot with 2x Write Speed with the same Burner like before, and because i though the slower Write Speed can be Work on the PS2, but it's still doesn't work on the PS2
  • My PS2 Disc Optic is Normal, it's still could to Play some PS2 Games

And what should i do now ??? Must i trying to burning the FreeDVDBoot with:

  1. Slower Write Speed ???, or
  2. Activate the AWS + OPC Write Options ???, or
  3. Another Burning Software ???, or
  4. Another Burner Driver ???, or
  5. Another DVD-R Brand ???

I want to trying Burning the FreeDVDBoot into some DVD-R again, but I'm afraid it's will not be Working, so Can you guys help me what should i do ??? Btw, I'm an Indonesian, Sorry for My Bad English Guys.
