Massachusetts deaths revised to match new definition from March 2022
Hello all,
With the very generous assistance of the Massachusetts Department of Health, we have been able to deploy a back correction to the Massachusetts data consistent with their new definition of COVID-19 death (see #5529). This preserves the data as being by date of report and removes the ~3k drop in deaths on March 14.
Massachusetts was only able to provide county-level death data from August 19, 2020 to March 14, 2022. As such, the data prior to the date has not been adjusted. There is ~600 death drop for Massachusetts from August 18, 2020 to August 19, 2020. It is our professional judgement that this is preferable to the 3k death drop in March 2022.
~~We are also aware that our first correction resulted in deaths not being revised for days where Massachusetts did not report (primarily weekends and holidays). We are working to resolve that issue urgently.~~
