Black Screen on Pop!_os

Open bossrhino opened this issue 2 years ago • 11 comments

Not sure where to look for logs in this system. But have recently installed PhotoshopCC using this method + NovaSpirits video onto Pop!_os.

The installation seems to have issues on Pop!_os, with Photoshop just launching with a black screen. Hoping there is a simple fix/solution to this.

What I'm seeing when I load Photoshop.

Side note, I've seen a few suggestions recommending I try switching Wine from Windows 10 to Windows 7. Same issue as above.

Also having this issue.

Also having this issue.

Can I ask you something? What is your Hardware? Nvidia GPU?

Asking because another post mentioned that opening an image in photoshop would load the interface. That seems to work for me.

Essentially you right click on the image and select, "Open with other application". And choose Photoshop. Then it appears to work. Their are some interface issues. If you try to return to the Home Screen / main Photoshop menu, you'll receive the same black bars above. I'm unsure why this is happening.

I'm asking about the hardware because I'm curious if this is an Nvidia issue. Or something else. Am thinking of switching to AMD if I'm going to continue using Linux full time. lol.

I've also received a few errors in different Photoshop logs:

  • Photoshop_d3d11.log

info: Transfer : 1 warn: DXVK: No state cache file found warn: DXVK: Creating new state cache file info: DXVK: Using 22 compiler threads err: Failed to create surface err: D3D11CreateDevice: Failed to create swap chain

Another log, 'Adobe Spaces Helper_d3d11.log'

Not sure if any of this is helpful in troubleshooting.

Oh well, I'm just using 11th Gen i3-1125G4. And the GPU is just its integrated graphics which is Intel UHD Graphics. So maybe this is a Mesa issue? What's your hardware?

I get the same thing.. just a black screen and my psd files won't load but I can load an image if I do the "open with application". Not very useful without being able to open my psd files... it just says it can't open that kind of file.

how to fixed this?

azhararrozak avatar Sep 02 '22 08:09 azhararrozak

Hello @bossrhino , I read all of this issue for a long time, but I don't sure what's happening. First of all, this issue is almost not related directly with the Nvidia GPU (the hardware) because I have the 1070Ti. But maybe it can be an issue on how the distribution handle the GPU, you are using Pop!_os (I don't use this distribution and I don't know exactly how it works)

  • so what version of it you are using?
  • You use Wayland or Xorg?
  • If you write the command: nvidia-settings -v, it shows an error?
  • Write the next command: lspci -v and look what kernel driver is in use.
  • Exactly what Nvidia you are using?

Finally @Fizzify , @tommywright and @azhararrozak, all of you use Pop!_os and have the same problem?

Hello @bossrhino , For now I don't know what's the real problem but I think that I have great news, today in a couple of hours I will publish the 21.2.4 version with optimized things, for example I deactivated the use of GPU processor. So when I publish the update, please try it and tell me whether it works or not, maybe it can work for all of you. Notice that I also incorporate the English and Spanish version by default.
