Use Case Title CEDS has "Financial Aid Award Type" for when aid is awarded. Missing is the concept of "financial assistance offered".
Use Case Description
"Financial Assistance Offered Type" - Types of financial aid for students towards education, training, or related costs of pursuing a credential, program, or other resource. Options: Scholarship,
(IDS note: this can be tied to an Organization/PS Institution, Program (offered by an organization), Credential offered)
Financial Assistance Scholarship Type - Financial aid award based on student achievement for education that doesn’t require repayment.
Options: Federal Scholarship - Financial aid award from the Federal Government based on student achievement for education that doesn’t require repayment. State or Local Scholarship - Financial aid award from a state, province, region, and/or local government based on student achievement for education that doesn’t require repayment. Institutional Scholarship - Financial aid award from an educational institution based on student achievement for education that doesn’t require repayment. Private Scholarship - Financial aid award from a private entity based on student achievement for education that doesn’t require repayment. Other Scholarship - Financial aid award from one or more other sources based on student achievement that doesn’t require repayment. Grant - Financial subsidy based on meeting requirements determined by the grantor that doesn’t require repayment. Institutional Grant - Financial subsidy based on meeting requirements determined by an educational institution that doesn’t require repayment. Other Federal Grant - Financial subsidy based on meeting requirements determined by the Federal Government that doesn’t require repayment. State or Local Grant - Financial subsidy based on meeting requirements determined by a state, province, region, and/or local government that doesn’t require repayment. Pell Grant - Financial subsidy the Federal Government provides based on the financial needs of the student. Private Grant - Financial subsidy based on meeting requirements determined by a private entity that doesn’t require repayment. Other Grant - Financial subsidy based on meeting requirements from one or more other sources.
Financial Assistance Loan Type - Financial aid that requires repayment as determined by the entity providing the loan.
Options: Federal Subsidized Loan - Loan from the Federal Government that is based on financial needs of the student, does not typically accrue interest or require repayment while meeting school attendance requirements, and is intended to offset costs related to education, living, and resources. Federal Unsubsidized Loan - Loan from the Federal Government that does not require evidence of the financial needs of the student, does not typically accrue interest or require repayment while meeting school attendance requirements, and is intended to offset costs related to education, living, and resources. State Loan - Loan from a state, province, region, and/or local government that does not typically accrue interest or require repayment while meeting school attendance requirements, and is intended to offset costs related to education, living, and resources. Institutional Loan - Loan from an educational institution that does not typically accrue interest or require repayment while meeting school attendance requirements, and is intended to offset costs related to education, living, and resources. Parent Plus Loan - Loan from the Federal Government available to the parents of dependent students. Private Loan - Loan from a private entity that does not typically accrue interest or require repayment while meeting school attendance requirements, and is intended to offset costs related to education, living, and resources. Other Loan - Loan from one or more other sources that is intended to offset costs related to education, living, and resources.
Financial Assistance Work Based Type - Financial compensation for participating with work-based learning opportunities.
Options: Academic Assistantship - Paid academic employment in which students receive tuition or other reimbursement for the tasks they perform for faculty members, departments, and/or educational institutions. Federal Work Study - Program funded by the Federal Government designed to provide part-time jobs for students to offset educational expenses. State or Local Work - Program funded by a state, province, region, and/or local government designed to provide part-time jobs for students to offset educational expenses. Other On-Campus Work - Paid jobs available for students on an educational institution’s campus. Co-operative Placement - Paid jobs utilized by approved career and technical education programs specifically matching technical training program enrollment Co-operative Capstone - Paid jobs utilized by approved career and technical education programs specifically matching technical training program enrollment and finalizing the education experience Distributed Co-operative Placement - Paid jobs utilized by approved career and technical education programs specifically for learners interested in obtaining technical skills not offered at the teaching institution Internship - Paid jobs utilized by learners to explore potential career fields of interest Apprenticeship OJT?
Financial Assistance Military Type - Financial aid available to active duty service members, veterans, and/or their qualified family members.
Options: Veteran Educational Assistance Program - Financial assistance provided to qualified active duty service members and veterans as a matching program that is intended to offset educational expenses. Post 9-11 GI Bill - Financial assistance provided to qualified active duty service members and veterans that is based on military service and intended to offset costs related to education, living, and resources. DoD Tuition Assistance - Financial assistance provided to qualified active duty service members for voluntary off-duty educational programs in support of professional and personal self-development goals.

The State of Kansas has published over 2,400 credentials and is working towards adding information to them including financial assistance information. Information about the applicable types of financial assistance is available as structured data to publish to the Registry and can be seen on the state’s KansasDegreeStats.org website. Credential Engine has drafted a hierarchy of concepts based on the Kansas model that they plan to finalize by August 2020. This has general types of assistance and then subtypes.
