Dataset / variable displayed on GUI is not always from layer which has been selected
Expected behavior
@forman @JanisGailis In Layers panel, adding a layer then selecting it to be displayed: expect this layer to be displayed
Actual behavior
Occasionally what is seen in the GUI does not correspond to the layer selected. It is nor clear whether it is displaying another variable from the same resource or the same variable from a different resource. Unfortunately it seems to happen randomly so I can't give definitive steps to reproduce. However in general I've seen it happening when one or more of the below conditions are met:
- Several datasets have been opened (~5+) and/or a large number of resources (~10+)
- At least one coregistration operation has been performed (have also seen it occasionally with use case 9)
- A resource has been renamed, but the old resource name is still shown in the Layers panel
- A resource has been deleted but is still present in Layers panel - already reported in issue #647
Suggested way forward : fix the issue where renaming of resources is not reflected in Layers panel, and fix #647. Both of these can be reprocduced. Then see if random display problem is still seen.
