Missing Inbox emails after archive

Open vp0220 opened this issue 9 years ago • 5 comments

During an archive of an email account, if Inbox has several sub-folders than it will archive messages for the sub-folders, but main folders like inbox, sent etc messages will disappear. Due to the archive setup; it will try to archive messages, but these messages are not there under archived folders. I use the method to have the same structure in archives by month and each month I'm missing emails from Inbox folder. Some sent items that are archived are missing as well. Initially I thought this may be on my system, or the setup of my mail accounts, but now I'm learning of it from some of my users.

Thank you.

Sad to hear that you loose mails. I guess we need some more infos to find the error.

Are the mails lost or are they not archived and still exist in their original folder? Have you done a search if the mail exist somewhere else (in a wrong folder)? Which version of Thunderbird do you use? Which OS? Do you use automatic archiving after startup or manual? (See addon setting) Do you use POP3 or IMAP accounts? Is the archive under local folders or somewhere else? When a mail is lost, do you see any messages in the error console (extras\error console)? Can you enable the extended logging (see addon settings) and send it (after a mail was lost)?

Are the mails lost or are they not archived and still exist in their original folder?

Emails are lost; they start the archive but the emails are not moved there. These emails are removed from Inbox completely; I see the folder structure present and sub-folder emails are there. But the main folder for example, 2014-01 will not have any emails from the Inbox.

Have you done a search if the mail exist somewhere else (in a wrong folder)?

Yes, searched for the emails but not present in any folders.

Which version of Thunderbird do you use?

At present, I'm on 24.6.0

Which OS?

Mac OS X; users on Windows 7 Prof 64-bit/32-bit

Do you use automatic archiving after startup or manual? (See addon setting)

Manual archive only; runs when I select 'AutoArchive Now'

Do you use POP3 or IMAP accounts?

All Archived email accounts are POP3

Is the archive under local folders or somewhere else?

Because I have multiple email accounts, my archive is under each email account. Users archive is under 'Local accounts'

When a mail is lost, do you see any messages in the error console (extras\error console)?

In the error console, there are no messages, but under 'Activity Manager' I see the messages are moved to archive.

Can you enable the extended logging (see addon settings) and send it (after a mail was lost)?

I'll provide this to you on the next archive run.

Right now I'm not able to reproduce this bug.

The move of emails itself is not done by the add-on, instead it uses a built-in Thunderbird mechanism. Therefore I would ask you first to upgrade Thunderbird to the current version and try again.

Also please try to repair the folder: Click with right button mouse on Inbox >> Properties >> Repair Folder

Do you know which emails are lost? What do they have in common?

Can you archive those mails manually? (mark multiple of them >> right mouse >> archive)

Hello,

I have the same bug : loss of Sent email after archiving. The Sent folder does not appear in the archive, and the mail from the Sent folder have been deleted.

Repairing did not help (in the archiving process, it is asked whether we want to compact the folders, which I usually do, so I guess that the repair cannot do much after this compaction).

I am running Thunderbid 38.5.0 on a Linux Mint Debian Edition.

When archived manually, the email are also lost...

Thank you for your help,

François

I'm sorry for this inconvienience. If the mails are also lost when archived manually (mark multiple of them >> right mouse >> archive) then it is a problem inside Thunderbird itself. I would ask you to post this as an bug at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ Refer to this issue if you like.
