Here's a workaround:

On the bottom of Settings, Search, there's a link called "Find more search engines". Duckduckgo was my #1 link. Good luck

I've customized my search engines so much (an extension named "add custom search engine" which IDK if it still exists), that it's easier to simply downgrade to 6.5.10 and wait for a fix than using any workarounds.

Please note that Startpage.com has been compromised ages ago.

It used to be privacy-oriented but it was bought by an advertising company: https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/comments/di5rn3/startpage_is_now_owned_by_an_advertising_company/

(Of course they'll still claim they're not invading people's privacy, but why would anyone believe that? It's an advertising company)

So it should not be the default search engine of a privacy-oriented browser.
