To clarify: starting in G6.0.11, after I deslected the "ask me every time where to save file", download progress is still shown on the download icon but not inside the history flyout or menu:
This seems related to private tabs, where it can be reliably reproduced: both the download dropdown and the full list ("show all") are always empty, so the downloads can't be stopped, and will be resumed even after quitting and restarting the browser.
On regular tabs, sometimes the download list also appears empty, but this is inconsistent, and seems to get fixed upon switching to another container (e.g. Work) and checking the downloads there. Possibly the regular downloads get broken by private ones.
The private tab issue happens at least as far back as G6.0.
The expected behavior (how it used to work with XUL extensions) is for private tabs to have their own download list that gets cleared on application restart. Separating downloads per-container would make sense too, but seems like an overkill personally.
Seemed like in my case, opening any tab in a Work container, saving anything from that tab (e.g. the page itself as .htm from right-click) and then checking the downloads ("show all") from the Work tab fixed the full list for regular tabs. The dropdown menu might have additionally required a restart - like I said, it's inconsistent. Can't be 100% sure since I was also swapping between different versions afterwards.
I haven't experienced this bug for at least a month.
@aaronliu0130 you can confirm empty downloads in private tabs though, correct? (not private windows)
Okay, it does break in private tabs
