Jet engine discriminates against modular missiles, apparently

Open Joey-Destroyah opened this issue 11 months ago • 5 comments

Describe the bug I am making a modular missile with a RAPIER. Unfortunately, the RAPIER says "nuh uh" and refuses to ignite. Or rather, it maliciously complies, producing 0 thrust

To Reproduce Please provide the steps to reproduce the behavior:

Make a missile with a RAPIER in it (may also work with any jet engine). Launch it. See that your engine mysteriously fails

Expected behavior Proper function of the cruise stage

Logs Please attach your <KSP Directory>/KSP.log file.

Screenshots If applicable, add screenshots to help explain your problem.

Additional context This may apply to other jet engines, but I'm unsure

p.s. Could someone please edit the wiki to add info on the new terminal guidance fields?

Having the same issue as well, using a modded jet engine. Boosters kick in but the engine remains dead

The original screenshot indicates that the engine isn't activated.

How many stages have you specified that the missile has in the MMG and have you set those engines to activate on the appropriate action groups (MMGs use action groups for staging)? MMGs with a single stage can avoid setting the engines to activate on AG1 and BDA will automatically activate all engines when triggering that stage, but MMGs with multiple stages require the action groups to be set.

In my case, I set up my cruise missile like the RBS-15: Action group 1: Boosters are activated and the missile is lifted off the ground Action group 2: Jet engine is activated for cruise guidance, until the target is reached.

I did set the cruise missile to have two stages, the only difference from Joey's design is that I used a modded jet engine called the "J-85 Tiger" from Airplane Plus. I do recall encountering the same issue with the RAPIER too.

Testing with one of my own modular missiles, I found a bug in the check for multi-mode engines being ignited that was causing the missile to detonate early (which is now fixed in dev), but I don't think this is the same issue. The engine in my test was igniting correctly on the second stage. Can you provide your cruise missile so that I can test it locally?
