Fire TV / Android TV generally

As part of #80 I now have a better basis by which to support Android TV because

  1. I've split things up so that I can have completely different 'main' functions depending on where and how the process is launched, which will make doing a Background Service simpler
  2. I've added the ability to remotely control a Huestacean instance from another Huestacean instance. This means a phone can be used to control an Android TV Huestacean, which makes the GUI way easier to use (I don't need to make everything work with an Android TV remote control, just a few things like starting and stopping it should be fine).

I've also actually bought a physical device to use.

Fire TV

I have a Fire TV Stick 4k to play with, so this will work.

Other Android TV

Hopefully just follows from getting Fire TV working. No other hardware to test with currently.

GUI design

#117 New GUI https://github.com/BradyBrenot/huestacean-design

The controller is a really big challenge, I've been thinking in terms of dragging and dropping. See what's possible, if it's too much of a hassle, enforce using another device for editing of scenes and only allow TV controller to do simpler actions.

Known issues in 2.6

#91 #97 #115 #64

  • Settings are lost upon restarting the app (QSettings issue?)
  • Crashes on FireTV frequently
  • Does not remain in background for long (no Background Service)
  • Crashes when unsuspended
  • No monitors shown #98

I'm so insanely happy to see that you are continuing the development of huestacean! It was the only app worth using on my Shield TV. I was so sad when the latest hue update broke the functionality... I would gladly offer myself for beta testing the app as well!

Keep up the great work!

Works really well on a Sony bravia A1 (besides the known issues) great App! One think I encountered: The performance of my tv really drops off if i play a 4k video on Youtube. I know this is no surprise since the image is processed twice, but is there still room for optimizations ? Or does Sony have to do a better job at developing tvs?
