[Windows desktop client] Client slows down with multiple chats

The Windows client experiences very slow updating as the number of chats goes up. This seems to affect all my connected desktop clients (two machines, both running Windows 11, server is running on a real Mac on the local network.)

For the record, I have 1,465 chats and 148k messages. The blue "unread" badge is usually the first thing to appear, but it takes several seconds for the chat list to update / move unreads to the top. The unread badge usually appears just as fast as it does on my phone. The client claims a latency of 4ms.
