Doc Issue: Google sign-in window when folder-permission issues

Open weflower opened this issue 1 year ago • 2 comments

When you're installing the Windows client, if you're using a Windows installation with one (or both, I'm not sure):

  • a security management software like BeyondTrust Privilege Management
  • folder permission lockdowns

The webview that opens for Google authentication will hang and remain blank. If you launch the BlueBubbles app with admin privileges, you get this error: client-sign-in-issue

One solution is to add Full control permissions to the Users group for the root installation folder (or specifically the bluebubbles_app.exe.WebView2 folder if it was able to be created).

Another solution might be to run the installation program as an Administrator, but I haven't gone back and tried that.

Confirmed, going to C:\Program Files (x86)\BlueBubbles and setting Full Control permissions for everything for the "bluebubbles_app.exe.WebView2" folder works around the issue.

To get the "bluebubbles_app.exe.WebView2" folder created, first run BlueBubbles as admin and then get to this same step, trying to login with google then cancel that out. Now the folder exists but empty.

Then set "bluebubbles_app.exe.WebView2" folder permission for users to everything.
