Imported & applied material on an object does not retain the application to that object
When importing a material/texture (non-procedural) and then exporting that object, such as an .obj or.fbx, then re-importing said object that texture is not retained. Furthermore, that imported texture, seems to only exist as a .blend file, and that it cannot be re-imported. One has to go back to Blenderkit search to find it and then re-import it. The only work around is to save the image/texture from the UV Editing window, then apply the texture as done already, in other words its re-doing what's already been done. This is very frustrating to say the least. Is there some process/workflow that I am missing here? Please help.
This is kind of expected behaviour if you don't unpack assets, and is something to be fixed in the exporters rather than in BlenderKit addon. You can enable unpacking of the assets in addon preferences. You can also study how unpacking of the textuers in Blender works generally - this is a standard Blender process and not really a bug (probably, it's possible always there's a bug we don't know about)
This is still an issue, I was already set up to have Unpack Files, not only in addon pref. but also in the addon itself when in edit mode. See image below. I'm dumbfounded by this? I tried to even save the texture inside the UV edit window, but it does not find the applied texture/materials. When I look in the Shader, it shows its there. Can you help please?
@vilemduha ...any status on this, please?
@agajdosi ...can you help with this issue, seems to be in a black hole...thanks
Hi, just to make sure - did you try to manually unpack the textures from the File menu? Did you study Blender manual about unpacking? Since if the textures are there, Blender has to unpack them to respective subfolder when you do it- it's a blender feature, not the addons. Addon tries to unpack after download, but with some combinations of addons, this can fail, that's why it's not by default now.
Can you please elaborate to a non-expert as to what this all means? I am still having an issue with this and its really getting to the point where I may cancel My Plan to Blenderkit. I tried what I assume you meant from the File menu (see attached). I have not studied, yet the Blender manual, but I will.
I don't understand what you mean by??: "Since if the textures are there, Blender has to unpack them to respective subfolder when you do it- it's a blender feature, not the addons."
OK, I seem to have found a way to Unpack the resources. First, I unchecked the "Unpack Files" box in the addon interface. Then, after trial and error, with downloading, then deleting the item shown (lantern), and trying each option, each time. Under Unpack Resources you have about 6 choices. The ONLY one I found that works is the one pointed at in the attached image. But, it writes the files so some unrelated to the original download folder. The downloaded object/blend file shows up in the 2nd attached image. The Unpacked files show up here> (see 3rd image)
Is there any way to improve on this?
Thanks!
Its not consistent, still having issues :(
The unpacking is by now fixed, closing this issue.
