FR: Option to keep display on for clock view
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Have an option to keep the display on for clock page/view (same like for timer)
Use case Sometimes I need to keep an eye for the current time and I don't have external clock so having option to simply display the clock screen and keep the phone away would be helpful.
@woj-tek You can already do this by launching the screensaver, which will also save battery life. Don't you think this is a better solution?
Remember: the screensaver can be launched by long-pressing the app icon or from Settings.
By the way, I didn't think of creating a tile to launch this activity; it might be a good idea to do so. 🤔
I kinda forgot about screensaver to be honest :)
However, just checked it and there are a couple of issues with it:
- entering it is kinda difficult - to get to the clock I already have a tab/swipe; to get to the screensaver I need to go to settings -> screensaver -> preview (lots of taps!). I don't have app icon to long-press on it (I use widget). One workaround would be switching to screensaver mode on long-tap (either on clock on clock screen, clock tab or just whole clock view)
- screensaver view/design is kinda annoying, mostly because of two things: a) fade in/out animations - I need something useful that just display current time constantly with full brightness and not flashy b) clock changes position which is highly annoying (well... the intention is to save the screen and avoid pixel burnout but I'm not looking for something to save my screen but to show useful information) c) after about 2 minutes the screensaver turned off either way 🤷♂
The screensaver view could be quite great if it could (apart from the above) be horizontal (to have huge time displayed)
@woj-tek Okay; I don't mind adding a new setting for that.
entering it is kinda difficult
With a tile, it would be easier to launch. Right?

I didn't know, as I never use it except for tests; I'll take a look to see if it's the same on my devices.

I don't know what you mean. 🤔 Would you have liked a vertical analog clock?

Possibly - but wouldn't that clutter the UI?

Me neither - while testing it and writing reply I noticed it turned off :D
(hm... I've been running it for about 4 minutes now and it still shows the time; every 30s it fades out-in to change clock position though)

OK, if you have auto-rotate ON (I have it disabled as it's annoying AF ^__^") then if you rotate your phone horizontally (like for watching the movies or whatnot) then Clock rotates the screensaver as well. But - it would be nice if a) it were possible to have screensaver (maybe call it 'fullscreen' at this point? Slightly different view?) always use horizontal display view (ignore system configuration) to maximize the display time and b) have the time displayed centred/without fading in-out?
Possibly - but wouldn't that clutter the UI?
Not at all because the tiles are located in the quick settings panel.

This is the expected behavior so nothing abnormal in the end.

I will not change this.
To conclude, I think I will implement a new setting. I will think about it.

Ah... maybe it's me but they don't seem to be very convenient - I do use them for basic stuff (wifi/mobile/airplane/sound/flashlight/rotate) as with huge screens they are not easily accessible…
This is the expected behavior so nothing abnormal in the end.
Is it needed though? Or could at least the fading speed be increased?
i'm looking to replace my old power-hungry desktop LED clock with my old phone, so i have essentially the same requirements as OP.
a notable addition to that would be that i'd like to configure the font size on the lock screen. setting a larger font would implicitly also reduce the "jumpiness" of the OLED saver, though i guess i'd also like to specify the margins of the allowed display area explicitly.
I think I'll instead add a single setting to prevent the screen from turning off regardless of which tab is displayed. This will be much better than having multiple settings that do the same thing for each tab.
Disabling this setting won't change the current behavior, which is that the screen doesn't turn off when the stopwatch is active or a timer is displayed.
