Windows: only works with traditionally installed Blender

Open DanMcLaughlin opened this issue 2 years ago • 2 comments

Looks like a great addon I'm keen to use. However an issue which is it only works on Windows with a app installed via a .msi/.ese installation. A Steam installation can't be used, nor a Windows store Blender install.

Hi Dan~ ^-^

First of all thanks for using my script. I downloaded Blender 3.0 from Steam and tried using my tool over that Blender executable and for me it behaved like normal.

What issue where you facing? ^-^

OK so you can navigate to the steam exe and that will work, got it. I was thinking of the url steam launch approach (steam: ...). The problem is just accessing the *.exe, since it's using a Blender file browser.

With Windows store however which is my preferred install (I use Steam only for the daily build of Blender), I spent some time spinning around but it looks like there's no good way to access the *.exe for it. It seems to be obfuscated and obscured, instead they probably want you to launch it through a service. If there could be a checkbox for "Use Steam version" or "Use Windows Store version" that would be ideal

I did get spend time time with a manually install Blender (which I'd like to uninstall and just use the Windows Store version), so far looks great!
