Working alternative in 2025: OldTwitter

Open Darthagnon opened this issue 3 months ago • 3 comments

It was a good run, but GoodTwitter2 is now more or less abandoned and does not work as of Oct 2025. If you still use Twitter and want it to look like it formerly did, there's an extension called OldTwitter in active development: https://github.com/dimdenGD/OldTwitter

I'm so sorry for the letdown. This project really was something special to me. But unfortunately I wasn't able to commit more time to this project in the last few years which led to this current state...

I barely use Twitter on my pc and since a lot of websites have adapted to this mobile look I have accepted it to some degree (don't get me wrong, I still think it looks bad...)

I won't archive the repository yet but I will pin this issue: OldTwitter looks promising and I think it is a good alternative to this userscript.

There may be some sporadic updates to the project but I just do not have enough interest/time ~~lately~~ since 2023.

Just wanted to pop in to sincerely thank you for all you did, @Bl4Cc4t, for us all while GoodTwitter2 was going strong! You couldn't have possibly anticipated the sale, and then massive changes made post-sale!

I do appreciate the work you and other contributors put into this project, it removed a good chunk of frustrations I had when using Twitter/X's new """desktop""" layout. It's completely understandable not wanting (or can't) contribute to the project, since not only do our lives change that can take away free time, but also because working on custom CSS is frustrating at times. Even if your code is perfect, one small update can just break everything, and that can be really demoralizing. I know a custom CSS I use for discord, "oldcord" is at risk of a similar fate if discord decided to rename a bunch of class names. Given we're moving on from COVID lockdowns, it's harder to make money for most of us, and Twitter's current owner makes the site both unstable and being used to push hateful politics and agendas, I can totally understand the slow down and contributes without needing to consider people's backgrounds.

Again, thank you
