As an editor I would like to preview an article that has no renderable galley

User story

As an editor of a small journal, I publish only in PDF, or maybe also in Word. As a result, I never have galleys that are renderable, so I don't see the small eye icon that lets me preview or proofread the article page and galley before clicking publish. I only see download icons.

Proposed solution

  • [ ] Create a new, quite prominent button, in typesetting, near the other proofreading features, but independent of any single galley. It can be called "Preview," and it can have an eye icon or something similar. When I click that button, Janeway should render the article page, using the same mechanism as it currently does for a galley and metadata, but without the user having to specify a galley. It should render the article page whether or not there are galleys. It should also render the primary galley, if for some reason it is already set before prepub, or if not, the first renderable galley that exists. This will cover the majority of use cases, since to my knowledge, there are not many journals that publish multiple renderable formats, like both HTML and XML simultaneously.

  • [ ] Keep the current eye icon button on individual renderable galleys, so that if someone does publish multiple renderable galleys, they can check each one.

  • [ ] If possible, improve the galley preview button by making it larger (min 24 px by 24px), giving it text, and ensuring the contrast is accessible. As it is, it is quite hard to spot for such an important function.
