Rename "Privacy Policy" as "Privacy"

User story

A new press was setting up on Janeway and asked to change the "Privacy Policy" footer link to "Privacy Statement".

It is unclear to me whether the distinction between Policy and Statement has a concrete legal implication, but if we can avoid the conflict between those two words by just using "Privacy", which is also more concise, that is my preferred solution.

Proposed solution

  • [ ] Change the Privacy Policy link to Privacy
  • [ ] Change the header of the default Privacy Policy page to Privacy

Describe alternatives you've considered

Use "Privacy Statement" or "Privacy Notice"

There is no legal difference between the phrasing "Privacy Policy", "Privacy Statement" or "Privacy Notice", as far as GDPR goes. GDPR leaves the exact wording up to the organisation. I think we should consider allowing the end user to set this with a setting so that it can align with their host institution's selected wording.
