The ability to change journal covers at press level which overrides the journal-level cover choice
Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe. Journals will change their covers, and sometimes this will not be desirable (e.g. an image will be used that is not a cover per se, and the press or even journal branding will be lost).
Describe the solution you'd like Because covers are uploaded at journal level, it would be good to have the ability to override the journal's choice at press level with another cover option that can be uploaded at press level. This could be combine with the 'edit description option already present at press level (see circled area in screenshot). This would also only affect the press level display of the journal's cover with its description.
Describe alternatives you've considered Asking journal editors to change their journal covers. This can be done by press staff but it is not always easy or appropriate to ask editors to change something so personal to the journal on the journal's site.
Thank you Simon! I'll just mark down for the record the conversation you, Katherine, Andy and I had outside GitHub after you posted this:
We recognise that it's important for press editors and journal editors to communicate clearly around this kind of thing, and to be encouraged by Janeway to work together. We also recognise it's important not to add too many settings for niche use cases.
Some possible solutions:
- Making this setting editable by press editors only, across installations, and requiring journal editors to ask press editors if they want to change this image. We don't like this because it takes away editorial autonomy.
- A new setting that allows press editors to make this image editable only by press editors, which would allow different publishers to allocate control differently.
- A feature in which one person can propose a change and others have to approve it before it goes live. I.e., peer / editorial review for site content.
Mauro to propose a new feature that requires certain setting changes to be approved by a press staff member. It should resolve the problem at hand, without potentially duplicating the journal covers for all journals
