How to switch Tabs automatically

I have three menu items in my Persistent Nav Bar (PNB) Home, Social, More.. I have a button on the home page, which opens a page that normally loads when the social tab is pressed. it's like a shortcut. However, when the navigation happens, the page that's under the social tab gets pushed on top of the home page. I would like to have the tab switch automatically to the social tab once I press the button on the home page. I cannot seem to access the controller or index of the bottom nav, from the other pages.
