Suggestion for /is settings
Description
So basically I'd like it if pistons and sticky pistons protection on islands for breaking them were moved over to the redstone island setting, this would allow players to create public generators without the worry of grief, helping create a better community for everyone.
Is your feature request related to a problem?
Not an issue with the plugin.
Describe the solution you'd like us to implement.
Move sticky pistons and pistons breaking protection to redstone on /is settings.
Describe alternatives you've considered.
Couldn't think of anything besides this.
Additional context
None.
Any update on this?
Can you tell me more about the context of making public generators? How does that work in practice? Do you give the blocks away for free? How do players place or break blocks for the generators if you do not give the place/break blocks setting in general? Surely generators are made up of more than just pistons.
So basically some people for example will create an island warp in a room of a block that doesn't follow the break blocks rule, like a note block. They then turn on block breaking and usually have this big piston gens that push blocks down for new players to break and get ores, they do this to advertise their warps so more people buy from their chest shops. Image of one of these below:
this one is not completed and hasn't got that box around it made of furnaces so players can't break out and grief the island but basically that's what it is, usually pistons are pushing the blocks up from the bottom underneath it. The one flaw that is in it is that players can break those pistons and get out, if pistons followed the rule of the redstone use setting it would allow these to be way more possible without that risk of grief.
So, in general, you want to allow breaking output of cobble gen, not pistons.
Yeah, if there was a setting added that only allowed blocks generated from a cobble generator to be broken or pistons and sticky pistons were moved to redstone protection it would make grief basically impossible.
So and here is a logic issue:
You can set any block to be generated by any cobblestone generator... You can create a generator that generates Beacons... chests... cobblestone... any valid block...
So in the GUI there would be a required option with all blocks in the game :D
It is possible to do it... but ... well? Do you really need it?
I would better request an addon that would allow creating areas with different permissions (break/place), instead of creating an option for each block :D
Hey, I agree and I understand that, so I think that the extra setting isn't really needed but most servers do usually only have ores/blocks in their generators so if pistons and sticky pistons were moved to redstone protection it would help a ton and I feel like it's a small simple change that would help a lot of servers. It also would make a lot more sense for pistons and sticky pistons to follow under the redstone protection instead of block breaking protection, as I've seen these type of free generators on many servers but people get griefed due to them just destroying the piston, I hope you can understand where I'm coming from!
I need to get 1.17.0 out today, but it should be fairly simple to change this, but I'd like to do it in a snapshot first, so please wait.
Sounds good, can't wait for it, appreciate it.
Hey there, any update on this?
The Redstone flag currently allows a visitor to switch the Redstone Repeater setting, and that's about it. Based on this improvement request, it could be adjusted to allow placing and breaking of the following Redstone components as well as usage:
- Redstone dust
- Redstone block
- Redtsone torch
- Target
- Tripwire hook
- Trapped chest
- Pressure plates
- Pistons
- Repeaters
- Comparitors
- Buttons
- Levers
- Daylight sensors
- Noteblocks
- Bell
Anything else? Does this make sense?
Well, i would suggest to create nested flag, like it is done with CONTAINERS
Yup, that and sticky pistons. Seems to be everything!
Is this suggestion still getting implemented?
It's just a matter of time to do it. If you are a programmer we accept pull requests as well.
