Regarding the 'Listening' device of the 'Recording' input device
What workfow do you want to improve?
After my mandatory triggering rule takes effect, the 'Listen' device I set for 'Recording' will become 'Default Playback Device' (I don't want this to happen). I have tried not running 'SoundSwitch', and at this time, the 'Listening' device of my 'Recording' is the 'ASUS CU4K30' I want
How to make it better?
I have two ideas, hoping to achieve one
- I want to change the 'Recording' device without changing the 'Listen' device I previously set.
- I would like to set the 'Listen' device for the 'Recording' device, regardless of whether the set 'Listen' device is currently in the 'Not plugged in' state.
Any alternative?
I have tried not to use 'SoundSwitch', and although the issue has been resolved, every time my computer starts up, there is another issue: the 'Playback' and 'Recording' devices are set to 'ASUS CU4K30' (this is a feature of the new firmware version of ASUS devices. I have tried to provide feedback to the manufacturer, but they have not provided a useful solution).
Additional context
After replying to ASUS, I implemented the plan they provided, but it was not ideal. So I gave them a solution (there is currently no other solution), which is to use 'SoundSwitch' to force the desired input and output devices.
If you feel it's not necessary to do this feature, then I'm sorry for causing you unnecessary trouble. Anyway, I am grateful for being able to read my issue.
@SomunsMo not sure if you will read this but if you do please share how you configured SoundSwitch.
SoundSwitch Settings allows to enable/disable "swtich Default Communication Device [DCD]
SoundSwitch Settings Profile allows you to set devices for playback/recording/DCD_playback/DCD_recording
Only the ones you fill will be actively changed by SoundSwitch in my experience.
So in your case I expect it to work as you desire if you only fill in the "Recording" box at the Profile setting and deselect "Switch Default Communication Device" in the Settings tab.
hth.
@GuitarBilly Thank you for your reply. I feel that I might not have clearly expressed my thoughts, and I apologize for that. Actually, my intention is to lock the "Playback through this device" option under the Listen tab in the Recording device properties panel (refer to the image).
To rule out any configuration issues on my end, I have also included screenshots of my configuration below.
Thank you for your reply again.
@SomunsMo,
After my mandatory triggering rule takes effect, the 'Listen' device I set for 'Recording' will become 'Default Playback Device' (I don't want this to happen).
Coming back to this, I do not know why your change in Listen tab at the Recording propterty [Virtual 5/6] is not saved, I do not use this feature. My guess is due to a "not plugged in" state when you try to trigger the profile. Maybe @Belphemur can shed more light on this.
Then you mention in your first post:
...every time my computer starts up, there is another issue: the 'Playback' and 'Recording' devices are set to 'ASUS CU4K30'
I have tried not running 'SoundSwitch', and at this time, the 'Listening' device of my 'Recording' is the 'ASUS CU4K30' I want
In your second post you only show NVidia, Realtek and Studio M Pro devices, can you clarify where/what is 'ASUS CU4K30'?
SUGGESTIONS:
- What happens if you deselect "Also switch default device" in the profile?
- What happens if you select Virtual 5/6 as one of the playback device in your profile?
@GuitarBilly
Topology of My Devices:
I believe your analysis on the first point is largely accurate, as the device was in an "unplugged" state when the configuration was triggered. Sometimes, I turn on "Computer A" first and then "Computer B". In such cases, the "Listen tab" within the "Recording tab" switches to become the "Default Playback Device." This happens even if I have deselected the option "Also switch default device" in the profile settings.
Previously, due to my needs for live streaming and screen recording, I adopted a setup involving two computers and a capture card device (Asus CU4K30).
Because I need to use the sound card device, I cannot set the capture card—or "Virtual 5/6"—as the default playback device; otherwise, "Computer B" won't be able to record audio from "Computer A". To solve this issue, I considered using the "Listen tab" within the "Recording tab". However, this approach brings us back to the original problem where the "Listen tab" automatically becomes the default playback device.
Currently, I no longer engage in live streaming and recording. However, up to this point, I still haven't found a better solution. Thanks for trying to help me out with this issue, no matter what.
@SomunsMo thanks for that topology drawing, that explains it all. And I read there is no urgent need for you to resolve it at this moment; however I want to share my experience with unplugged or invalid devices; SoundSwitch will properly engage then once they become available.
Example: i am on soundprofile "laptop" and switch to profile "bluetooth headphones" which are not connected. then i get a a notification that it was not successful:
However when I actually connect and turn on the headset and re-trigger the "bluetooth headset" profile once more, all is fine:
So, in essence, if you can create the profile with all relevant devices connected, it should store it correctly. More important, SoundSwitch will restore these settings after a profile trigger once all devices related to that profile are availabe. In your case you may have to re-trigger the profile after delayed computer B startup.
