linphone fails to start on macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 (23E224) on M1 silicon

As a user, wanting to use linphone as an alternative to Skype, I would like a seamless installation experience without any distractions. In this case, linphone failed to start after downloading the desktop app.

What happened

I downloaded the linphone desktop for my MacBook pro (macOS Sonoma 14.4.1 (23E224) on M1 silicon). When I ran it, the icon briefly popped up in the dock and disappeared immediately. I diagnosed this by running it from the command prompt:

sjo00523@BA24-VYS8299FU ~ % /Applications/Linphone.app/Contents/MacOS/linphone --verbose
QML debugging is enabled. Only use this in a safe environment.
SingleApplication: Unable to create block.
SingleApplication: 7 "QSharedMemory::create: out of resources"
sjo00523@BA24-VYS8299FU ~ %

My laptop features 16GB of RAM, but the problem might lie elsewhere. I would like this message to offer more concrete advice for fixing the problem. This problem should not occur on a computer as powerful as this. Should I conclude that linphone is not yet robust enough for everyday use by the public at large?
