Auth id field in assistant and account settings

Open etamme opened this issue 7 years ago • 13 comments

There is no "authorization user" provided for SIP configuration. The client assumes the sip username is the auth username, which is ridiculous, and insecure.

It is not ridiculous and insecure. If you have a username/password, where is the problem? The auth id is in the majority of cases equals to the username, so it is not visible in the assistant. But it can be accessible in the auth popup if necessary.

For the moment, it is not planned to see this field in the assistant. Maybe in the future if many users have this problem...

It does significantly reduce security as you are giving away half of your credentials if you use the same data for your auth user as your user.

I don't care so much about its presence in the "wizard" or "setup assistant", but I think there should be a clear and easy way to set the auth id after the fact. Currently you have to clear the password, then you get prompted for auth id and password - so it's there, it's just not accessible in any kind of way that makes logical sense.

Some minor back story: OnSIP is always looking for clients to review and recommend to our customers. I'd love to be able to promote linphone's usage, but there are some basic issues that make it a non-starter, such as the lack of, or difficulty in setting the auth user (user id).

Bumping this since it's still not a feature: 3CX, a major PBX system specifically uses a different Auth username and the SIP username is the extension, this feature needs to be added.

If this is something critical for you, I suggest you to contact the commercials at https://www.linphone.org/contact in order to allocate the time to do it, because we don't have it until 4.5

It is still not possible to use Linphone with 3CX because of the missing option to add a different username (AuthID)!
