[Feature Request] Different modes with translation

Open johann-taberlet opened this issue 8 months ago • 3 comments

Hi, first I would like to thank you for this app, I tested it and finally bought it as it is nearly perfect.

Just a suggestion as french man:

Would it be possible to have a translation setting ? Meaning setting input language AND force output language to english ?

My dream would be to have different "mode", for each mode I can setup a shortcut key and those modes would look like this:

INPUT OUTPUT Auto Auto // meaning if I talk french it transcribes in french, if I speak english it transcribes in english French English // translation

What do you think ?

Not very near term, But will add support in feature, But for now you can use a custom prompt and use AI enhancement on top of local transcription

@johann-taberlet were you able to achieve what you wanted? I've achieved something quite close to your description. This is what I did:

  1. I created a "Translator" enhancement prompt. I used the default system enhancement prompt in which I changed "Rule 0" to: The output should always be in English despite the original <TRANSCRIPT> text language.. This prompt can be enhanced even further.
  2. I created a new Power Mode.
  3. I added a random string in the website’s input field (see https://github.com/Beingpax/VoiceInk/issues/98).
  4. I selected the multilingual model: "Large v3 Turbo (Quantized)".
  5. I set the Transcription Language to "auto-detect."
  6. I enabled AI Enhancement for the Power Mode.
  7. I selected my Translator enhancement prompt from before.
  8. Then once I start the input capture, I can change the Power Mode using Cmd+1 through 9 (see https://github.com/Beingpax/VoiceInk/releases/tag/v1.29).

@Beingpax I think https://transcrybe.app/ is an interesting tool, and it would be fantastic if Voiceink could have a similar feature, as it essentially opens up new possibilities for real-time meetings with multiple languages spoken in the room.
