I'd love to be able to set a custom keyboard shortcut that doesn't require ⌘/⌥/⌃ etc.
Problem it solves
As a mechanical keyboard user, I have more keys available than exist on the default MBP keyboard. 😅 For example, I'd like to be able to use my "plain" F17 key to trigger VoiceInk w/o involving a modifier. Right now, I built a workaround with Keyboard Maestro (hitting F17 triggers Cmd+F17) but that's not ideal.
Proposed solution
In the mask for entering a custom shortcut, don't force modifiers? 🤷🏻♂️
Additional context
It's not unusual for mech keyboard users to remap their keys, especially when the keyboards have a different layout than "default MacBook". For instance, I own a 75% ANSI keyboard which has three extra keys right of F12, and I usually wire them up to run various scripts or Shortcuts workflow. (One of them is the aforementioned F17.)
(As an aside: There's also Karabiner-Elements for macOS which allows remapping keys on built-in keyboards, and it supports all kinds of key codes that can't be found on macOS – like F13-F24.)
