[Question] Can symlinking liblua5.4 to liblua5.3 cause issue?

Open Vysp3r opened this issue 3 months ago • 2 comments

My server is currently running Fedora Server 42 and I only have access to liblua5.4 or liblua5.1. When I play by myself on the server there's no issue, but when my friend join I get a boat load of lua errors and I didn't have that problem when my server was running Debian 12. Debian 12 had liblua5.3 so my question is could that lead to potential issue and is there a better alternative to what I am doing right now? Couldn't the dependency be updated to liblua5.4 also? Thank you!

It depends on how the server was compiled and on the plugins that the server is using. Are the lua errors in the server console or in-game?

They seem to be in-game only. I would have to try again to make sure.

I would think it'd make more sense to, perhaps, run your server in a container? One issue I always had with Fedora, is that with it being quite centred on being cutting edge, you'd then have issues with obscure/older versions of packages, though it's a good issue to have.

@alextwothousand What would you recommend server wise for this then?
