Add a widget to add a single red button, to home screen. One touch starts logging, a second or a double stops logging and also exports the track to the chosen file format(s)
Sure. Can you post a draft of the proposed button? The devil is in the detail. You can, for example, overlap your idea to the screenshots of the current user interface. Anyway, thank you for your suggestion.
Ah, sorry I wasn't quite clear I think. I'd like to use the app without showing the complete UI, just a start/stop button on the 'desktop' or what it is called in android. Start starts everything in the background, stop quits recording and exports the file and quits the app.
@ingoogni - The user interface is one of the fundamental topics of an application, and it must be well thought out. We are open to any suggestion in order to satisfy a good amount of users, while keeping the interface simple and intuitive. Nevertheless one of the main purposes of the app is to be informative.
I think that a desktop widget is suitable to implement your propose, because it needs a click to perform a single operation, only requiring a minimum of feedback.
if you agree we could rename the issue and keep it open in order to keep track of this desired feature, post ideas about the implementation and hoping that in the future a contributor will implement it.
As seen, here we can collect ideas, suggestions, mockup images and all related stuff. We must start with some mockups and a complete description of the background task performed.

Just an idea for starts, red start 'button' one tab, starts logging in the background, button turns blue button turns green when location is stable, maybe show the gps marker symbol in button (one tab on green button sets marker and opens gui to add info) double tab stops logging and exports files. Button turns red. looong tab on any coloured button opens gui
