Feature Request: Automatic exportation of the track to a specific folder after the finalization

Open remizik opened this issue 4 years ago • 14 comments

Hey there, I would love to have all the GPX files on my SDCard without having to export my records one by one :) Possible ? thanks

For now we have no plans to implement the automatic exportation, but we received the same request from several users. We keep this issue opened in order to track the feature requests, we don't exclude a future implementation of the feature.

Let's use this issue to collect comments, ideas, and to keep track of an eventual implementation!

Thanks GrazianoCapelli ! Hoping to see that happening at some point ;)

I am also supporting this request. This is mater of practicality. We need to have tracks in usable formats like GPX, and automatic save in that format is crucial for user experience.

fyi: While searching for an easy way to export all my tracks at once I found https://github.com/BasicAirData/GPSLogger/issues/120 which describes how to select a range of tracks.

that's actually perfect ! didn't even think to try to select multiple tracks this way, thanks a lot :)

In effect the range selection is an undocumented feature, it is a bit difficult for the users to find the issue #120. We added the tip to the frequently asked questions.

Honestly I always considered this feature a bit redundant because the exportation is really comfortable and can be done in no time, but a lot of people are asking for it. I start to think that maybe I'm underestimating the feature because I have no idea of the possibilities it can offer (beyond saving two clicks). Please, if so, let me know what those possibilities are, and I'm open to change my mind.

When I'm on holidays, I like to record basically all my moves (roadtrip, hikes, etc..) and end up with a lot of files to export. Having them auto exported is easier. Also allows for auto backups to dropbox or other platforms. Thanks for considering the option (please let us chose the folder for auto export if it becomes a thing :) )

It is true that manual exporting is easy and straightforward. However for me is is usually not just two clicks, because I still do forget to export the last track after closing it, so later when I want to use the gpx files, I re-export all files to make sure no track has been left out. Then the modification date of the files becomes a problem. I rely on them for syncing, so all files get resynced to my Linux box again and again. So, in a nutshell: I want my gpx file right after I close a track with the actual date of closing. Thanks for considering us forgetful people

@remizik @SanskritFritz thanks for sharing your point of view.

please let us chose the folder for auto export

If the feature will be implemented, why not use the local exportation folder that is already set for manual exportation?

I could live with that :) Although having it as a setting allows for more flexibility
