Free Alternative APIs

Hello, is it possible to use free alternatives instead of ChatGPT and deepgram apis?

What can we do to use Mozilla DeepSpeech instead of Deepgram, Ollama instead of ChatGPT?

Do you have Ollama Installed locally at all ? That was what I was thinking of going with however the only prerequisite is that your laptop definitely needs at least 16GB of ram or more.

It feels very odd that these sorts of requests get no serious public recognition. It would still be possible for Omi to offer monetized options WITHOUT forcing users to literally rebuild huge portions of the project to escape proprietary integrations.

  • No mandatory Google Auth. Allow OpenAuth and make it easy to set up.
  • No mandatory Firebase. Provide simple and core integration with an open source variant.
  • No Deepgram, provide support for local Whisper or DeepSpeech
  • No OpenAI, provide support for custom endpoints.

Like... Come on. If you don't offer this it just feels like you're in it for the eventual lock-in bucks.

Wait. I'm looking to buy and everything says open source. Is this not true?

Only in the loosest sense. Their code itself can be inspected and forked but it is totally reliant on VERY non- open source infrastructure. You would have to completely rebuild the Omi app which is technically possible... But not really a fair ask.

The whole project has been a steady drive toward their recent implementation of paid plans.

Thanks! Sad to see all these "open source" are moving towards greed.
