Boinc downloads far too much work

Open hucker75 opened this issue 2 years ago • 4 comments

Boinc is repeatedly asking for more work when I already have over 1000 times more than I asked for.

I attached to Primegrid and selected the Genefer22 subproject. As you can see from the screenshot, it's got enough work to keep all 4 graphics cards busy for (what it thinks is [1]) 1617 days. Yet I've told it to get 1 + 0.25 days work, and the deadline is 21 days. It just keeps asking, again and again, I can see no way of stopping it.

[1] Another bug - running CPU and GPU work from the same project confuses the hell out of it's time prediction. They don't take the time it thinks.

Please try to reproduce this on the client emulator: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/sim_web.php

Not sure if I've done this right. Previous to running the simulation, I had already deleted the excessive tasks, and the machine had gone to another project (World Community Grid) because some rare GPU tasks appeared. I suspended World Community Grid, so it was working on one Primegrid task per GPU (the ones I had left in there), and it did try to get more, but got nothing, presumably because the server has limited the host as it downloaded so many.

I uploaded all the files from it and ran the simulation, it's number 199: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/sim_web.php?action=show_scenario&name=199

Let me know if I can help further.

Unfortunately the simulation doesn't show the problem. If it happens again, try it again with the state files at that point.

Would it matter what version of the server it is running?
