Wait long enough.

Expected behaviour

The program works without randomly crashing without the option to recover work.

Please fix this. It is maddening!

More feedback needed. After loading your map, I had no problems. No error messages, no freeze. Test with Firefox (if the error still exists) and please give us a better guide to reproduce the problem. "Working with the map " is not very specific. What did you exactly do when you got "random error", what were these errors, etc.

Please notice, you are using 100k map which is not recommended especially if you have not enough ram (the only supported mode is 10k).

Out of memory error means there are memory leaks in the system. Can you specify whether the issue happens frequently and what specific actions are usually done?

Azgaar avatar May 01 '22 17:05 Azgaar

There is no specific action that is triggering it, and it can happen even when I'm doing nothing at all. It just happens at random, given enough time. Sometimes that's an hour, sometimes that's 5 mins. As for what action I take in response, I refresh, because there is not much else I can do, except save often.

I have 32gb of RAM, please do let me know if that is somehow not enough.

I ran it in Incognito for a bit, and it seemed to help, but eventually it popped back up again. I will try Firefox when I have a chance.

There was someone on the Reddit that mentioned very high memory usage, and they also had a lot of memory (also 32 GB IIRC). This would seem to be a browser problem. Are there any extensions configured? I know you ran it in incognito mode, which normally disables all extensions, but you may have enabled one or more to run in incognito mode.

The only other cause I can think of is some sort of video driver problem. Are you using the 3d mode at all, for example?

@j-d-bell : strange indeed. Question: the problem exists in this specific map or any other maps? Test: Please try to turn off all plugins and extensions in your browser (adblockers whatanot). Check if the problem still persists.

It seems to be a memory leak indeed.

Need to check big strings and other things that usually cause memory leaks. We had them before, but I didn't observe any accidents recently

Azgaar avatar May 02 '22 21:05 Azgaar

Just using the normal 2D map, so I don't think the video is the issue, though I have had other video related issues recently regarding my drivers and Win10 not getting along.

I just disabled all my extensions, will continue running in Incognito and see how that works. If it persists, I'll try and run it in Firefox, then let you all know how that goes.

Manually turning off the extensions does not prevent the problem. I will move on to testing Firefox.

Please also tell us whether only this or other maps are also affected.

Unfortunately, I don't really have another map to work on, though I suppose I can try and make one to fiddle about with and see how it behaves.

I noticed the Resource Monitor displayed a sudden spike in Hard Faults on the memory around the time it last crash on Chrome. That said, Firefox was actually error free last night, for the few hours I used it.

Hi, I'm here to report I'm having the same problem that j-d-bell had. I open my map (Esalas 2022-06-21-16-17.zip) Everything is fine, but I can see in the Taskmanager the RAM usage slowly but surely keeps rising up until it reaches 60%, in which case, the map crashes. The process takes about a minute when idle and the settings are very lightweight. image image My map is 60K, so its pretty heavy, but an hour ago I was using it just fine.

I am using google chrome, but I've tried opening it on Ungoogled chromium and Microsft edge and the issue still remais. I'll try on Firefox, maybe it is a chromium engine problem. I'll also report that it first started happening when I was renaming provinces.

I'm using Windows 10, Google chrome, intel i5 10400, 16GB RAM, GTX 970 and a 4k screen, if thats of any help.

Otherwise, I'm enjoing the app.

After an hour, trying it out on Firefox, I can safely assume, that this error does not affect firefox!

alexspeed8888 avatar Jun 21 '22 15:06 alexspeed8888

Did not see it for a while. Memory leaks happen from out side, but I don't know how to detect them properly. It requires some more investigation.

Did not see for a long period of time. Probably was browser-related
